What is the passing score on the TEAS 7?

There is no standard score that you are required to achieve to pass the TEAS, since the TEAS is not a test that you can pass or fail.

The average TEAS test score on a national level stands at about 60 percent. This average provides a benchmark for students to gauge where they stand compared to other test-takers across the country. However, this average is not the definitive measure for entry into all nursing programs, as each program has its criteria.

Program-Specific Criteria

  • The TEAS test score that is considered "passing" is set by individual nursing programs. What this means is that each school or nursing program will have its specific threshold for what it thinks is a passable or competitive score. For instance, a smaller community college may have a different standard than a renowned university.

  • Aspiring students must research the specific requirements of the programs they're interested in to ensure they meet or exceed those benchmarks.

Score Ranges

  • While the national average provides a general idea, many nursing programs specifically look for TEAS scores in the 60% to 80% range. This range might vary based on several factors, including the program's historical average scores, the number of applicants, and the program's capacity.

  • The competitiveness of a program and its specific requirements will influence the scores they accept. For example, a program with a high volume of applicants may decide to set higher score requirements.

Competitiveness

  • The term "top-tier" often refers to highly sought-after programs with a reputation for excellence. These programs are known to be more competitive, which usually translates to stricter admission criteria.

  • The TEAS score is one of the ways these programs filter out candidates, but it's essential to remember that even within competitive programs, the emphasis on the TEAS score may vary.

  • On the other hand, programs with a broader or more lenient admissions approach may have a more extensive range of accepted scores. It doesn't necessarily reflect the program's quality but rather its admissions strategy.

Holistic Admissions

  • Admissions are rarely black and white. While the TEAS score is undoubtedly an important metric, it's part of a larger picture.

  • Other academic indicators, such as a student's GPA, play a significant role. A strong GPA can sometimes balance out a slightly lower TEAS score.

  • Letters of recommendation provide insights into a student's character, work ethic, and potential. Strong letters can give a boost to an application.

  • Previous healthcare experience can demonstrate a student's dedication to the field, providing real-world context beyond test scores.

  • The interview process allows programs to gauge interpersonal skills, passion for nursing, and fit for the program.

Achieving a strong TEAS score is undeniably Important. However, nursing programs often seek well-rounded candidates, considering various aspects of an applicant's profile.
