What happens if I fail the ATI TEAS test?
Failing the TEAS means that you did not receive the minimum score required by the nursing program you intended to apply to.
The first result of failing the TEAS is that you may not be able to apply to your desired program. However, this does not have to be the case. Here's a short list of steps to take if you find yourself in this situation:
-
Look for the admissions window of your program
Programs may have multiple admission windows, so even if you happen to miss the first, you may still be able to apply at a later date. Usually, you will find this information on your school's website, or by contacting them directly, either by phone or email.
-
Be informed about the TEAS retake process
If you are taking the TEAS at an institution, they will usually provide you with information about how often they offer the TEAS per year. You can expect the institution to have a 3-tests-per-year policy, but always check the updated information.
If you are taking the TEAS at ATI or PSI, they will usually allow you to retake the TEAS 14 days after your first attempt.
-
Check the retake policies of your school
Many schools require a 30-day period between attempts. This means that if you retake the TEAS too soon, you might not be considered for admission.
Be informed how many retakes schools allow to be considered for admission. The school has access to your TEAS history, and many will only accept 3 attempts in their admissions process.
Do not hurry to reschedule. Take the time you need to prepare for your retake to ensure a successful attempt.
