What is the difference between ATI TEAS 6 & ATI TEAS 7?

There are a significant number of differences between TEAS 6 and TEAS 7:

  • TEAS 7 is made up of 170 questions, while TEAS 6 contained a total of 150 questions. The time limit has remained the same, with 209 minutes divided into four sections.

  • TEAS 7 has an added ‘Language Use and Vocabulary’ section, which evaluates the student’s ability to correctly use common language and essential medical terminology.

This new sub-section focuses on your ability to:

  • use basic principles of writing to express yourself clearly

  • determine the meaning of words in context

  • analyze word parts

  • The TEAS 7 science section focuses more on human anatomy and physiology than TEAS 6.

For the TEAS 6, there was one sub-section called Life and Physical Sciences, that has now been split into separate Biology and Chemistry sections.

  • The TEAS 7 math section focuses more on practical and real-world scenarios that students might encounter in their medical work.

Expect more questions that will ask you to apply your theoretical knowledge and logical deduction to scenarios that emulate what future nurses and healthcare workers might encounter on a day-to-day basis.

  • TEAS 7 places more importance on the science section when it comes to scoring, while TEAS 6 was more focused on the maths section.

This means that the science sections contains questions that are worth more points overall. However, you have no way of knowing which questions are worth more than others, so do your best regardless of the section.

  • TEAS 7 is entirely computer-based, while TEAS 6 was also available in paper-based formats.

Because of new question formats, you can only take the TEAS 7 on a computer, either remotely or at an institution or testing center.

It's recommended that you use updated TEAS 7 study materials. While the basic content is the same, the TEAS 6 study materials will not offer a good understanding of the TEAS 7 structure and questions.
