Is the TEAS difficult?
The TEAS covers many materials and subjects, so it can be considered difficult. It is a standardized test that requires you to manage your time efficiently and perform well in science, language use, and math. You also have to spend a significant amount of time preparing for it, and all these factors can make TEAS a complex and often overwhelming experience.
What topics are on the TEAS test?
The topics you will be tested on during the TEAS are:
-
Reading
-
Math
-
Science
-
English and Language Usage
We detail and break down each section and their respective sub-sections here.
What type of questions are on the TEAS test?
The TEAS 7 contains two large categories of questions: multiple-choice items, with four answer options and only one correct answer, and alternate items.
Alternate item types are also divided into four types:
-
Multiple Select Items - Questions with four or more possible answers. These questions will ask you to select all answers that apply, meaning that more than one may be correct. To get credit on these questions, you must select all correct answers. You will not receive partial credit if your answer is incomplete.
-
Supply Answer - Questions without answer options. You will have to provide the full answer or fill in the blank. The answers could be text or numerical values.
-
Hot Spot Items - Questions that will ask you to select an area of an image. To answer, you will have to identify which one of the five clickable areas on the picture is the correct answer, then click it.
-
Order Response Items - Questions that ask you to place the answer options in the correct order. You will be asked to drag the options from a table on the left to an empty table on the right. You have to place all answers in the correct order. If one answer is out of place, then the whole response is incorrect. You will not be given partial credit.
Is the TEAS test open book?
The TEAS is not open book. You cannot use manuals, notes, or study guides during the exam. If you attempt to use any materials, both during your online and in-person test, your test will be flagged by the proctors.

What is the time limit for the ATI TEAS test?
The time limit for the TEAS is 209 minutes. This time is divided between the four sections: 55 minutes for the Reading section, 57 minutes for the Math section, 60 minutes for the Science section, and 37 minutes for the English and Language Usage section.
What is the hardest part of the TEAS test?
Many students find that the Science part of the TEAS is the hardest. It covers human anatomy and physiology, and students claim that they were surprised by the complexity of this section.
However, many students say they scored the lowest on the English and Language Usage section. Make sure you take the time to properly review all subjects that will be covered on the test since the sections that seem the easiest can often cause the most problems.
Can I retake one section of the TEAS?
You cannot retake only one section of the TEAS. Even if the scoring of one section is the one that affected your overall score the most, you will have to retake the entire test if you want to improve.
Can you pause the TEAS test?
You can pause the TEAS for up to five minutes. During this time, you will still be monitored by the proctors. After the five minutes is up, your test will resume. ATI will be informed if you leave your seat for more than five minutes.
If you take the exam in person, you can use the restroom, but the test is not paused. This means that the test timer will not stop while you are gone, and you can't make up for lost time.
Can you skip around on the TEAS test?
You cannot skip around the entire TEAS. You can go back and forth between questions within one section. However, once you submit the answers to one section, you are not able to go back and change them.
What level of math is on the TEAS test?
For the TEAS, you have to have a high school-level knowledge of mathematics. You should be able to interpret graphs, answer questions about arithmetic and measurements, and have a good grasp of basic algebra.
What formulas do I need to know for the TEAS test?
Some of the formulas you will need to know for your TEAS are:
-
the distance formula (d = rt)
-
the area of a rectangle (A = lw)
-
the perimeter of a square (P = 4s)
-
the volume of a rectangular prism (V = lwh)
-
slope-intercept (y = mx + b)
-
the quadratic equation (ax^2 + bx + c = 0)
-
Pythagorean theorem (a^2 + b^2 = c^2)
-
the circumference of a circle (C = 2πr)
-
the area of a triangle (A = (1/2)bh)
-
the simple interest formula (I = Prt)
